According to research, more than half of Americans consider their pets part of the family. Therefore, it is not surprising that you bring your fur-loving friend with you when you travel. To make your task easier for everyone, we recommend that you follow the steps below. It will help ensure that you will have an enjoyable vacation with your loved ones.

First step: ask questions
When contacting state hotel chains or cabins, be sure to ask multiple questions regarding their pet policy. Many of these policies will have multiple rules. For example, they will allow a small pet or dog. However, the pet cannot exceed a certain weight limit. Some hotel chains even have a rule like pets are only allowed in carriers, etc. The hotel manager should be able to answer your questions over the phone, but it’s always a good idea to ask for a hard copy. They can email or fax the information.

Second Step: Check the capabilities of the room
You may want to check the amenities in the room, regardless of whether you are staying in a cabin or a pet-friendly hotel. If your pet has special dietary needs, you may need a stove or refrigerator. It’s also a good idea to see if there are pet-friendly trails or parks nearby. This way you will be able to give your pet a much needed exercise.

Step Three: Find out if they are truly pet-friendly
When traveling with pets, you’ll quickly learn that there is a difference between pet-friendly and tolerant lodging. A pet-friendly cabin or hotel will offer easy-to-clean surfaces, dog bags, and some will even offer treats. Most of these locations will also allow your pet to run around in the room while pet tolerant housing will only allow them within a certain square foot.

Step Four: Prepare for your pet’s travel needs
When taking a trip with a pet, remember that they will have special travel needs. You may want to cover their home with pillows or towels to keep them comfortable. You may also want to carry extra bags for accidents and treats and small trays to pour water into while you stop to take a break.

These are all easy to follow trips so that your next vacation is an unforgettable one. Your pet will thank you with a better attitude, too.
